"Hats are a great antidote to what's really going on. It's really their purpose to put a happy face on a sad world." (Stephen Jones, Milliner).

Your hats always maintain a style that is distinctly yours, how much do you take trends into account?
"I don't. I have no idea what is "in" this season. I don't buy fashion magazines, I follow some on Facebook as I am in love with amazing high fashion photography but in truth I am far more interested in the photography than the fashion in the image. When I create I occasionally half consider what I think will sell, then I throw that thought out and do what I want to do. So my range is very varied as one day I want create something elegant in ivory, lace and pearls and the next I want glam rock, glitter and insects. I don't keep up with my "competition" as I don't compete with anyone apart from myself and I don't really know who is charge of telling us how to wear our hair, what colour lipstick is current or how to style our eyebrows!? I think having a personal style is far more important than listening to what anyone else tells you is "allowed". I bought a few fashion magazines recently as I was going to be without the Internet for the night, I was horrified by most of what passed for fashion and relieved that what I do isn't fashionable, it's fun!"
